A family doctor offers vaccination against coronavirus infection with the domestic vaccine Sputnik Lite. This is a lightweight version of the Sputnik V vaccine, which does not require double administration (vaccination is carried out in one dose). “Sputnik Light” was developed by the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N. F. Gamaleya and registered by the Russian Ministry of Health on March 29, 2021.
The vaccine is available to citizens of the Russian Federation who have permanent or temporary registration in the city of Moscow.
The vaccine itself is provided free of charge. The cost of the service consists of the cost of the pre-vaccination appointment and the vaccination procedure itself.
Sputnik Light is an excellent solution for those who have already had coronavirus, as well as for revaccination. It is specially made for those whose bodies have antibodies to SARS-Cov-2 (the causative agent of COVID-19). When revaccinating, it does not matter what vaccine the initial vaccination was given.
Who should not be vaccinated?
Contraindications to vaccination are:
- coronavirus infection suffered within the last 6 months;
- hypersensitivity to any of the components of the vaccine;
- history of severe allergic reactions;
- acute infectious and non-infectious diseases;
- exacerbation of chronic diseases;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- age up to 18 years.
Treatment for yellow fever
First of all, people suspected of having this disease are hospitalized. The local population of endemic regions suffers from a mild or latent form, and Europeans who arrive in the region always suffer from the disease seriously; those who are not vaccinated often die. There are no specific treatments, but there is a highly effective vaccine that can prevent the disease.
Benefits of vaccination
- Safety. You can travel safely and not worry about contracting the virus.
- Issuance of an international certificate. Many countries define the requirement for such a certificate as mandatory.
- Vaccination is carried out once, and subsequently the body develops lifelong immunity.
- A high-quality and proven product.
- Reasonable prices for the procedure.
- If everything is carried out in the right manner, there is practically no risk of infection.
How is vaccination carried out?
Unlike other coronavirus vaccines approved in Russia, vaccination with Sputnik Light is carried out once (one dose). Before vaccination, you must visit a doctor (go through a pre-vaccination appointment) to confirm the absence of contraindications.
In particular, thermometry is carried out as part of the pre-vaccination appointment. If the temperature exceeds 37 °C, vaccination is not carried out. Particular attention is needed when vaccinating patients with a number of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, allergies, diseases of the central nervous system and cardiovascular diseases (coronary heart disease, etc.).
If the examination reveals the acute phase of any disease (infectious, non-infectious, exacerbation of a chronic disease), vaccination should be postponed for 2-4 weeks.
Post-vaccination immunity develops a week after vaccination and reaches a maximum after 4 weeks.
Malaria. Vaccination and effective treatment
The topic of malaria has been the headliner of news feeds in recent days. We will not discuss the tragic incident that triggered this discussion. A tragedy occurred and the people who found themselves at its epicenter, in a certain sense, now have the right to say whatever they want - they are hurt.
Let's try to objectively assess the danger of contracting this disease. And the first thing that needs to be said: unlike yellow fever, there is malaria in Tanzania, and in Zanzibar in particular.
So, yes, from this point of view it is not safe to vacation in Zanzibar. Not like, for example, in Thailand. Or there, in Morocco. But wait, these same countries also have malaria. Well, you will have to go further away from it, for example, to South America, to visit, say, Brazil and Argentina. Oh yes, there is malaria there too. And also in India, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and even in some regions of the UAE. Let’s summarize: this “sore” exists not only in Africa, but also in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, in total in 89 countries around the world, including popular and quite prosperous, in the understanding of our society, tourist destinations.
At the same time, there is no vaccine against this scourge; more precisely, there are developments, the effectiveness of which is highly controversial and not fully studied. But there are effective medicines and even more effective preventive measures! The all-knowing WHO includes, strange as it may seem, the use of insecticide-treated bed curtains, believing that this method of vector control plays a vital role. In addition, spraying insecticides indoors is another critical activity.
Matawi Serengeti Camp, Tanzania. The bed canopy is not a decorative solution, but reliable protection at night
Why? It's simple: the causative agent of the disease is the Plasmodium parasite, transmitted by the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, which are active mainly at night. That is why at night in all hotels here, specially treated protective curtains are lowered over the beds, and the windows are protected with mosquito nets.
As a result, practically no infections have been recorded among visiting foreigners. We write “practically” because before the tragedy, we were not aware of a single infection of tourists, our employees or colleagues over the past few years. The following figures indicate the representativeness of our sample: during the period from October 2021 to March 2021, we received 8,000 of our compatriots in Zanzibar who arrived on charter flights from Moscow.
But even if infected, you should not panic - the disease is curable, there is a proven, proven therapy. You can say that these are all words that do not give any understanding of how to protect yourself other than with repellents and mosquito nets. Let's get specific!
Pharmacies in Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania sell anti-malarial tablets freely in both adult and pediatric formats. For example, the product “Artequin” from a Swiss manufacturer. Or the drug "Coartem", which is available in a single dosage for patients whose weight is 35 kg and above.
After vaccination
- After vaccination, individual reactions are possible (weakness, malaise, fever, etc.), which disappear within 1-3 days. If there is redness, swelling, or pain at the vaccination site, it is recommended to take antihistamines. If your body temperature rises after vaccination, you can take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If the symptoms that appear bother you, consult a doctor.
- It is recommended not to wet the injection site for 3 days after vaccination, not to visit the sauna, bathhouse, not to drink alcohol, and to avoid excessive physical exertion.
- Self-isolation after vaccination is not required, you can lead a normal lifestyle. But do not forget about general precautions: social distance and wearing a mask in public places.
In winter, paragliders flock to warm countries, following the weather. Sometimes, even to countries where outbreaks of tropical diseases are possible, for example, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador or Kenya.
Of course, most flight sites are located in the mountains at a fairly high altitude and have a temperate rather than tropical climate, but the trip is not only about flying, but also about visiting other places.
For example, in Brazil, in recent years, there has been an unfavorable epidemiological situation regarding yellow fever , and in states and places where there are many popular flight sites (Valadares, Baixo Guanda, Rio de Janeiro, etc.). The organizers of the Pan American Paragliding Championship 2021 (Baixo Guandu) strongly recommended that all participants get vaccinated.
Rosstourism also reports that outbreaks of yellow fever have been recorded in 3 states (Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro).
Here are excerpts from the letter from Rosstourism dated January 28, 2021.
According to reports from the Brazilian Ministry of Health on January 23, 2018, an increase in incidence was recorded in three southwestern states. Thus, from mid-January to January 22 of this year, 47 cases were registered in the state of Minas Gerais, 25 of which were fatal; in the state of Sao Paulo - 36 and 25 cases, respectively; in the state of Rio de Janeiro – 20 and 8, respectively.
In the state of Minas Gerais, a state of emergency was declared for 180 days and the city zoo was closed, where the death of a monkey infected with the yellow fever virus was recorded. It is recommended that only people who have been vaccinated against yellow fever stay in state parks. According to the DSCC of the Russian Foreign Ministry, airlines require the provision of a vaccination certificate when flying to the country.
Although Brazil was not among the countries where entry is prohibited without mandatory vaccination, but only a recommendation, due to outbreaks of the disease, measures may be tightened.
List of countries requiring an international yellow fever vaccination certificate for all travelers
- Angola
- Burundi
- Gabon
- Ghana
- French Guiana
- Guinea-Bissau
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Congo
- Cameroon
- Ivory Coast
- Liberia
- Mali
- Niger
- Rwanda
- Sierra Leone
- Togo
- Central African Republic
For example, the Emegranto portal reports, with reference to the same Rosstourism, about:
Due to the worsening epidemiological situation with the incidence of yellow fever in Brazil, the Federal Tourism Agency of the Russian Federation reports tightening the rules for visiting this country. In particular, at the request of the Brazilian authorities, all foreigners entering and leaving the country must be vaccinated against this disease and have an international certificate confirming this. This requirement also applies to transit passengers who have been at Brazilian airports for 12 hours or longer.
Today, a number of air carriers flying to Latin American countries, including Brazil, require passengers to provide proof of vaccination before boarding the plane. Therefore, Russians who are planning to visit Brazil in the near future need to take this into account. You must obtain your vaccination certificate at least 10 days before your trip.
In January 2021, the World Health Organization advised against travelers not vaccinated against yellow fever from visiting Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, where there were high incidence rates.
Therefore, today I will briefly talk about how to get vaccinated with this very vaccine in Moscow.
The vaccination is easily tolerated and is done for life.
It’s not difficult to get it done; there are 3 centers in Moscow that provide vaccinations. The cost of vaccination is from 1800 to 2200 rubles (until 2021, Muscovites were given free of charge).
