Immunoglobulin when planning pregnancy
Immunoglobulin is an immunostimulating agent that helps the body fight viruses and bacteria. Reduces the risk of infection in immunocompromised individuals. The lack of immunity can be chronic or caused by certain situations. This number also includes pregnancy. A woman’s body reduces the level of immunity so that the fetus is not rejected by it as a foreign body. Therefore, immunoglobulin can be a very important link in planning pregnancy. Prescribed mainly for problems with pregnancy.
There are two types of immunoglobulin: “normal human” and “anti-D immunoglobulin”. The second is used when there is a conflict between the Rh factors of the blood of the mother and fetus. The first is prescribed if there are serious indications or a woman’s immunodeficiency during pregnancy or during planning. The instructions for the drug say that its effect on pregnancy is not fully known.
Immunoglobulin is administered in drops; the dosage and frequency of use are prescribed by the doctor, based on the individual characteristics of the woman’s body, the course of pregnancy, and the duration. It is important to remember here that improper use of immunoglobulin during planning and pregnancy can have a negative effect.
As stated in the article, there are serious concerns about taking this drug. Such as the threat of miscarriage (and at any stage), interruption of an ectopic pregnancy, abortion, abdominal injuries and some others. If, when planning a pregnancy, an immunodeficiency is diagnosed in the mother, in this case, the doctor may decide to prescribe the drug, since it compensates for the deficiency of IgG.
Side effects usually do not last long. Their list includes joint pain, shortness of breath, itching, dry cough, fatigue, fever, nausea, tachycardia and others.
The topic of immunoglobulin is vast and the justification for its use depends on many factors. Unfortunately, it is impossible to make the right decision after reading the article. We recommend that you contact a gynecologist who, based on an analysis of your situation, will select an individual treatment strategy for you. Pregnancy planning
is a set of diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic measures aimed at reducing the risks of having a child with congenital diseases and complications for a woman during pregnancy and childbirth. It is recommended to start preparing for pregnancy 3 months before the planned conception.
Elena Levanovich, chief freelance specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, deputy chief physician of the City Hospital No. 5 - Center for Maternal and Child Health, spoke about the importance of preparing for pregnancy.

Why is it so important to prepare for pregnancy?
– Any couple and, above all, a woman should prepare for pregnancy.
Many families put off having a child and first get an education, build a career, and get a home.
Modern women plan their first pregnancy by the age of 30 or later.
If you have somatic diseases, you need to consult a therapist and adjust your blood pressure; if you have gallstones or urolithiasis, carry out the necessary research and only then plan a pregnancy.
To avoid surprises during pregnancy, you need to visit a gynecologist.
What tests should be taken in preparation for pregnancy?
– The minimum set of examinations that need to be done before planning a pregnancy is a smear for flora and cytology, that is, cancer cells.
Be sure to check your hemoglobin.
If it is low, and pregnancy occurs against the background of anemia, then problems arise with the development of the placenta and placental insufficiency, which can lead to many complications during pregnancy.
If the patient does not know whether he has had rubella, he must donate blood for immunoglobulins to the rubella virus.
When immunoglobulin G is determined, we calmly enter into pregnancy. If immunoglubilin G is not detected, this indicates a lack of immunity; the woman must be vaccinated against rubella and plan pregnancy only after 6 months.
Not all women regularly visit an obstetrician-gynecologist and undergo medical examination, although ultrasound of the pelvic organs and ultrasound of the mammary glands should be done annually and always before planning a pregnancy.
Three months before expected conception, we always recommend that patients take folic acid to prevent neural tube defects.
Both the expectant mother and father should participate in preparing for pregnancy.
If we talk about men, they generally don’t like doctors, but if problems arise with conception, we bring the man to an andrologist or urologist.
What vitamins should you take when planning and during pregnancy?
– According to WHO recommendations, three months before the expected pregnancy you need to take not only folic acid, but also iodine.
We all have a deficiency of vitamin D3, which leads to decreased immunity and reproductive health in women and men.
There are vitamins, we call them micronutriceptics, which contain the necessary minimum of microelements for a pregnant woman.
So, from vitamins and microelements a woman should receive
:
- folic acid,
- iodine preparation,
- vitamin D3,
- vitamin E, which in small quantities promotes the absorption of D3
- Omega 3 unsaturated acids.
Why is it important to plan your pregnancy?
– If a patient has endocrinological or gynecological diseases, then she regulates her hormonal levels with a specialized doctor and then becomes pregnant.
Pregnancy planning is very important for patients with a burdened obstetric history: spontaneous miscarriages, missed abortions, adverse pregnancy outcomes.
They need to undergo the necessary examinations, visit a gynecologist, talk about the planned pregnancy and problems with pregnancy.
The doctor adjusts the hormonal levels and the patient, who has a history of 2 or more miscarriages or missed pregnancies, becomes pregnant against the background of hormonal support of the second phase of the menstrual cycle to avoid a recurrence of an unfavorable pregnancy outcome.
After conception, you must register for pregnancy at the antenatal clinic.
Registration must be before 12 weeks of pregnancy.
This is important in order to undergo a minimum of examinations and determine the basic blood parameters in a timely manner.
Nowadays there are many overweight and obese patients who have elevated blood glucose, but before pregnancy they do not pay attention to this and do not see the problem.
During pregnancy, the load increases, sugar levels rise and so-called gestational diabetes mellitus occurs, which, like obesity, can lead to placental insufficiency.
Patients with obesity and hypertension are at high risk for developing placental insufficiency.
To exclude unfavorable pregnancy outcomes, it is very important in the early stages, before 16 weeks, when the placenta is forming, to identify diabetes and prescribe treatment.
Early registration is very important to undergo the first screening examination from 11.5 to 13.5 weeks.
This makes it possible to timely identify unfavorable indirect signs of a child having genetic or chromosomal diseases and raise the question of further examination of the patient.
If the pathology is confirmed, the possible outcomes of this pregnancy are discussed.
What should you not do during pregnancy?
– A pregnant woman should not visit a bathhouse, sauna, take a hot bath or steam to avoid adverse outcomes.
You can only take a warm shower.
Bad habits
– Everyone knows that during pregnancy you need to give up smoking, drinking alcohol and toxic substances.
All this adversely affects the development of the child.
At the stage of pregnancy planning, a woman must be aware and give up bad habits in order for the baby to be healthy and the pregnancy to proceed favorably.

What is needed to successfully plan a pregnancy?
- Consult a gynecologist
- with this doctor you can undergo an examination and find out whether everything is in order with your medical history, or whether there are problems that should be taken into account already at the stage of pregnancy planning.
You can also get smears from a gynecologist for STDs
(sexually transmitted infections, sexually transmitted diseases) and
cervical oncocytology
. Don’t run around unnecessarily doing, for example, a genetic test - this is not as important as consulting an attentive gynecologist when planning a pregnancy. - Do an ultrasound of the pelvis and an ultrasound of the mammary glands.
to undergo mammography
when planning pregnancy .
It should be remembered that a woman’s age is one of the most important factors that affects the ability to conceive and bear a healthy child! If you are over 35 years old
, then you should approach the issue of pregnancy planning especially carefully. - Take a biochemical blood test together with the future father
- this is the main test for HIV, AIDS, syphilis, hepatitis B and C. - Consult with a therapist or the specialist doctor for whom you have chronic diseases.
For example, if you have gastritis, contact a gastroenterologist, hypertension - see a cardiologist, tonsillitis - see an ENT doctor. During pregnancy, you need to treat your body with special care and strictly limit your medication intake. Therefore, it is necessary to take steps in advance to prevent exacerbation of chronic diseases and consult with the right doctors on how to behave during pregnancy. If you or your husband take any medications (cardio, hormonal) on a regular basis, check with a doctor of the appropriate specialization to see how they affect fertility (including your spouse) and pregnancy. You may need to stop taking some medications or replace them with others. - Treat your teeth
- again, it is not advisable to treat your teeth during pregnancy due to restrictions on medications (this includes anesthesia) and pain that causes acute discomfort. In turn, chronic caries can lead to pregnancy complications, including miscarriage and premature infected birth. Pregnancy can provoke caries and inflammation of the gums, if there are prerequisites for this. After registering for pregnancy, a visit to the dentist is mandatory, but dental treatment should be done at the stage of pregnancy planning. - Get rid of excess weight
— by the third trimester of pregnancy, women gain weight from 7 to 20 kg. Such weight gain is considered normal and even correct, but not if your BMI exceeds 25 (overweight) and especially 30 (obese). Being overweight can indicate hormonal imbalances and is often associated with diabetes, which is quite dangerous during pregnancy. With elevated blood sugar, the kidneys are especially affected - intoxication of the body occurs, which can lead to intrauterine death of the fetus.
- Choose the optimal type of sport
- at the stage of pregnancy planning, as well as in the first trimesters, physical activity is not only not contraindicated, but even necessary. However, you should avoid extreme sports and excessively intense exercise, giving preference to swimming, walking, yoga, and dancing (without acrobatics).
If a woman has successfully passed all examinations, but within 1 year the couple cannot conceive a child
, you don’t need to immediately contact a fertility specialist at an IVF center.
The future dad should contact a urologist for a spermogram
.
Thus, you should start with a consultation with an obstetrician-gynecologist. This is your primary doctor who, after an examination, will give individual recommendations on what is needed to plan a pregnancy. Moreover, you cannot do without professional help if:
- You are taking contraceptives (COCs);
- You have menstrual irregularities;
- You are over 35 years old;
- You have a history of chronic diseases;
- You tried to conceive a child, but the marriage has been infertile for more than 1 year;
- Previous pregnancies ended in miscarriage.
